STRAKOVA LEADS NATION IN TWO STATISTICAL CATEGORIES

HAMPTON, Va. – Through the first three weeks of the 2014 season, Hampton University senior rightside Vendula Strakova leads the nation in two separate statistical categories – and she ranks top five nationally in three other categories.
 
Through this past weekend’s action, Strakova (Brno, Czech Republic) leads the nation in both total kills (231) and total attacks (531), while ranking third in the nation in kills per set (5.78), points per set (6.44), and attacks per set (13.28).
 
Closer to home, Strakova is now ranked second in program history in career kills; in two-plus seasons at Hampton, she has 1,265 career kills, leaving her 207 behind all-time record holder Chavanca Hoskins, who tallied 1,472 kills from 2003-06.
 
This past weekend, Strakova passed both Nicole Adams (1,244) and LaJaiah Miles (1,249) on the school’s all-time career kills list. Just five Lady Pirates have amassed 1,000 career kills.
Including her year at the University of San Francisco, Strakova has 1,528 career kills.
 
Senior setter Kitija Megne (Kuldiga, Latvia) ranks ninth among all Div. I players in total assists with 457, and her 11.43 assists per set are the 19th-best average in the nation.
 
As a team, the Lady Pirates (5-5) are 19th in the nation in total assists with 522, and their 552 total kills as a team rank 25th among all Div. I programs. Hampton is also 36th in the nation in assists per set, averaging 13.05.
 
The Lady Pirates hit .264 as a team, ranking 41st in the nation. Their 13.80 kills per set rank 46th nationally.
