Wildcats Pull Away From Grambling State, 36-23
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman registered its first victory over Grambling State since 1954 Saturday with a 36-23 triumph in front of a Municipal Stadium crowd of 9,423.
Trailing 23-22 entering the final frame, the 13th-ranked Wildcats (2-0) got rushing touchdowns from Danny Dillard and Drexler Dixon while the defense held the Tigers (0-3) to one first down and 25 yards in the final 15 minutes.
Bethune-Cookman hadn’t beaten Grambling State since a 25-14 decision in 1954. The Tigers had won the last eight meetings before Saturday.
Quentin Williams rushed for two Wildcat touchdowns and completed 13 of 18 passes for 165 yards for the Wildcats, who saw an early 11-point lead fade.
Dillard’s 5-yard run with 6:12 put the Wildcats ahead 29-23 and capped off a bizarre sequence that saw a B-CU touchdown pass called back on a holding penalty and Head Coach Brian Jenkins electing to take points off the scoreboard when kicker Haden Hoggarth was roughed after making a field goal. The Wildcats scored two plays later.
The Tiger offense, which had success extended drives with seven third down conversions in the first three quarters, couldn’t sustain any offense down the stretch, and the Wildcats ran the final three minutes off the clock. Dixon’s three-yard run gave the Wildcats an insurance touchdown with 56 seconds to play.

Cohen, Aggies Defense Lead A&T Past Elon
ELON, N.C. – North Carolina A&T running back Tarik Cohen fancies himself as a player who can do multiple things on a football field. He even suggested that at some point this season he may he even kick a field goal. For now, the Aggies will live with what Cohen gave them in the Aggies 17-12 win over Elon Saturday night at Rhodes Stadium.
Cohen rushed for a career-high 234 yards and ran for a game-winning 81-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He also accounted for the Aggies other touchdown with a two-yard TD pass to Denzel Keyes in the first quarter. It was the second 200-yard rushing performance of Cohen’s career and his fourth straight 100-plus rushing game dating back to last season. Cohen has two 80-plus yard runs this season.
Cohen’s game-winning run was set up by a defense that refused to let the Phoenix into the end zone and a defense that became stronger as the game progressed. A&T’s defense did not give up a touchdown despite the Phoenix advances to the Aggies 3, 5, 11, 4, 6-yard lines on five separate occasions during the game. Sophomore kicker John Gallagher provided all the scoring for the Phoenix by scoring on 4 of 5 of the Phoenix’s trips inside the Aggies 10.
But it was the one time Gallagher wasn’t successful that may have turned the game in the Aggies’ favor. With a 12-10 lead, the Phoenix recovered a Kwashaun Quick fumble at the Aggies 48 with 5:06 to play in the third quarter. Elon used seven plays to earn a 1st-and-goal at the Aggies 8. But A&T junior cornerback Tony McRae broke up a Mike Quinn pass on third-and-goal from the 6 to force a fourth down.

McGhee Leads Howard to Win Over Morehouse
WASHINGTON — Greg McGhee accounted for all the Howard scoring, rushing for three touchdowns and passing for two more as the Bison defeated Morehouse, 35-17 in the AT&T Nation's Football Classic at RFK Stadium before 13,178. The 6-3, 208-pound senior from Pittsburgh, Pa, rushed 98 yards, scoring on runs of 1-yard twice, and a 17-yard scamper late that all but put the game away. He also completed 16 of 30 for 149 yards and TD passes to Justin Chaney and Robert Mercer. For his efforts, he was named the game MVP for the third time in four years.
The Maroon Tigers (1-1) got on the board first when Monqavious Johnson capped off an eight-play, 65-yard drive on a 16-yard strike to Lake McGuffie with a little over five minutes off the clock in the first quarter. Morehouse failed on the PAT kick, but led 6-0.
Johnson, a sophomore who accounted for 338 of his team's 392 yards, was a thorn in the side of the Bison's defense all day.
Morehouse's score apparently woke up Howard (1-2) and their leader, McGhee began to take over the game. The four-year starter, took advantage of a short field and used five plays to get the Bison on board, scoring on a one-yard quarterback sneak to give his team the lead for good at 7-6.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Lee Hull's Morgan State Bears steamrolled the Bulldogs in the second half and cruised to a 28-3 win on a rainy Saturday at Hughes Stadium before a crowd of 4,238.

The victory also marked Hull's first as Morgan State's head coach. It marked the third largest margin of victory against the Bulldogs in the series.
Council was just 2 of 10 passing for 18 yards, but it was his running that helped power a second-half surge by the offense.

NCCU's Fourth Quarter Comeback Not Enough in Loss to Charlotte
DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University tied a school record with 28 fourth-quarter points, but a slow start allowed Charlotte to score 40 unanswered to open the contest, as the unbeaten 49ers avenged last season's loss to the Eagles with a 40-28 victory inside O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham, N.C.
NCCU redshirt sophomore quarterback Malcolm Bell came off the bench with 11:36 left in the second quarter to throw for a career-high 337 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-36 passing with an interception.
Bell spread the wealth to a host of receivers. Redshirt junior Adrian Wilkins caught seven passes for 129 yards and a touchdown, while junior running back Deyonta Wright also had seven receptions for 27 yards. Transfer receivers Quentin Atkinson and Jazz King had five catches each, while rookie tight end Jvon Simmons grabbed three passes for 42 yards and his first career touchdown.

Towson Rides Special Teams to Victory in Hornets’ Home Opener
DOVER, Del. (Sept. 13, 2014) --- Delaware State held a one-point lead before Towson scored two special teams touchdowns in the fourth quarter en route to a 21-7 victory in the Hornets’ home opener in a steady rain at Alumni Stadium today.
Towson, the 2013 FCS national runner-up, won for the first time in three games, while the Hornets fell to 0-3 this season.
Delaware State led 7-6 before marching 27 yards on eight plays when the drive stalled at the Towson 48. On the DSU punt attempt, the snap by Ernest Mengoni sailed over the head of punter Jeremiah McGeough and rolled to the DSU 25. McGeough scooped up the ball and attempted a desperation kick, but the ball was blocked Towson’s Jordan Mynatt and recovered by Fred Overstreet, who lunged into the endzone from one yard out for the touchdown. Towson quarterback Conner Frazier connected with Andre Dessenberg on a two-point pass after the score to give the Tigers a 14-7 lead with 11:16 left in the fourth quarter.
After each team failed to score on its next possession, Delaware State was forced to punt again.

Tigers Fall to Fort Valley State, 42-28
SAVANNAH, Ga. - Two critical third-quarter plays left Savannah State University head coach Earnest Wilson III using a boxing reference following the Tigers' 42-28 home-opening loss to Fort Valley State University on Saturday night at T.A. Wright Stadium.
Wilson was referring to SSU quarterback Ker-Sean Wilson's pass that was intercepted in the end zone by FVSU's Karonte Donaldson with 7:57 remaining in the third quarter.
The Tigers' second-year coach also was talking about the ensuing play in which FVSU backup quarterback Otis Brown connected with Drelon Freeman for an 80-yard touchdown. Instead of SSU tying the game at 28, FVSU staked a 35-21 lead.
FVSU (1-1) avenged a 27-20 loss it suffered against SSU last season at T.A. Wright Stadium. It remains the only victory for SSU's Wilson, whose Tigers (0-3) finished 1-11 last season.
