NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s and women’s tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week when they were each named an ITA All-Academic Team. In addition, nine players garnered ITA Scholar-Athlete status for having individual GPAs of 3.50 or better.
It marked the fourth year in a row the Spartan women earned ITA All-Academic Team status and the second year in a row and just the second time ever for the men.
North Carolina Central was the only other men’s program in the MEAC to be named an ITA All-Academic Team, while NSU was one of three women’s programs in the conference to do so along with Howard and N.C. Central.
Five men’s players and four women’s players were also named an ITA Scholar-Athlete by the organization. Seniors Kent Austin and Peter Ramstromer-Pello, juniors Igor Braga and Daniel Grauel and sophomore Dzmitry Zyhmantovich were honored on the men’s side. It marked the third straight time for Austin, and the second year in a row for Braga, Grauel and Zyhmantovich.
Juniors Yvonne Kamegne and Krystal Scott, sophomore Andrea Macchiavello and freshman Liza Gordeeva represented the women’s program. It marked the second year in a row Macchiavello earned scholar-athlete honors.
To be eligible for the all-academic team award, a program must have a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or better. Varsity letterwinners who have been at their school for at least two semesters and have an individual GPA of 3.50 or better are eligible to be named a scholar-athlete.
