NORFOLK, Va. – The trio of senior Thea Aspiras and juniors Ashley Buck and Carrie Hickey of the Norfolk State bowling team were honored by the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) for their academic prowess.
The three were named NTCA All-Academic honorable mention by the organization this week.
It marks the fourth time in her four years at NSU Aspiras garnered all-academic accolades from the NTCA. Buck earned the academic honor for the third time in her three-year career, while Hickey was honored for the first time.
Aspiras wrapped up her four-year career by being named first-team All-MEAC for the fourth straight season. She was MVP of the Kutztown Invitational, which included 14 ranked teams, and also earned a spot on the MEAC All-Tournament team. Aspiras averaged 200.4 in 45 games on the season.
Buck bowled in 11 team games on the year, averaging 173.0, as well as in 21 Baker games. Hickey sat out the year due to injury. All three were named to the MEAC All-Academic Team this season as well.
A total of 165 student-athletes from 35 programs were honored this season by the NTCA with all-academic honors for having a GPA of 3.4 or better during the 2013-14 academic year.
