Schulle?s 1-Hitter in Vain in 1-0 Loss to FAMU

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Senior Jamie Schulle allowed just one hit in seven innings, but the Norfolk State softball team fell to Florida A&M 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the MEAC tournament at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

NSU (19-25) will next play North Carolina A&T at 4:30 p.m. in the loser’s bracket of the tournament.

Schulle (13-15) allowed just a first-inning single, but that FAMU runner eventually scored for the only run of the game. Schulle allowed just that one earned run and struck out three for her first career complete-game one-hitter.

Florida A&M’s base running allowed the Rattlers (21-27) to score their only run in the bottom of the first. Christina Robbs singled with one out and then stole second and third. Amber Fullwood walked, and then a double steal put the Rattlers on the board.

NSU had its best chance to score in the third, but sophomore Heather Dunning was stranded on third. The Spartans left five runners on base, while FAMU had just two.

Kenya Pereira (6-8) struck out seven and allowed four hits in seven innings for the win. Robbs had three of FAMU’s five stolen bases in the game.

Dunning had two of NSU’s four hits in the game.
