GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Delanie Gourley tossed a five-inning no-hitter Friday evening for the Florida Gators, which bounced visiting Florida A&M into the loser’s bracket of the NCAA Softball Regional here at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
FAMU (25-28) will take on UCF in an elimination game at 3:30 p.m.
Florida (46-11) got off to a fast start, scoring six runs on four hits, aided by one FAMU error. In the bottom of the first. The Gator outbreak waS keyed by a two-run homer by Lauren Haeger, followed three batters later by a three-run blast by Taylor Schwarz.
In the second, UF pushed across a run on a hit and an error for a 7-0 lead, then added the final run in the bottom of the fourth.
FAMU starter Kenya Pereira (9-9) was lifted after one out in the first, having been touched up for all six Gator runs on four hits. Ashleigh Minter came on in relief to get the final two outs of the first.
Minter was effective early, allowing one run in the next two and two thirds innings, allowing another run in the bottom of the fourth. She finished with 3.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits,, while Gourley had a five inning no-hitter, striking out seven with one walk.
