DOVER, Del. – Sophomore outfielder Nicole Gazzola earned Capital One Academic All-District II Team honors for the first time in her career.

In order to be considered for the award, this student-athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing, in addition to being a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

Starting all 44 games this season, Gazzola is batting .381 with 17 RBI and 33 runs, while leading the team in hits (53) and stolen bases (14).  Majoring in Movement Sciences with a concentration in Strength & Conditioning, the Coram, N.Y. native, currently holds a 3.71 overall grade point average.

With this recognition, Gazzola adds to her career accolades after earning National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team and All-MEAC Second Team honors in 2013, along with setting a single-season team record for most hits (84).

Coming up, Gazzola and the rest of the Delaware State softball team (29-15, 12-3 MEAC) will close the regular season with a three-game series this weekend at UMES.
