MEAC Announces Weekly Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State’s Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and Howard’s Katelyn Stokes was chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Howard’s Jessica Josiah was named the Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Zyhmantovich (So., Minsk, Belarus) went 2-2 on the week, including a straight-set win against James Madison, 6-1, 6-1, and in doubles, 8-7. Zyhmantovich improved to 12-3 on the season in singles play.

Stokes (Sr., Greenbelt, Md.) went undefeated in singles and doubles play against George Mason and Coppin State. Stokes did not relinquish a set in her two singles matches, while winning both doubles matches, 8-4, 8-0.

Josiah (Fr. Sacramento, Calif.) went 3-1 on the week, including a perfect 2-0 in doubles, against George Mason and Coppin State.

 

Other top performers:

Angela Bonilla (SSU) earned a straight-set victory in singles and an 8-1 doubles win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Gaby Chinchilla (BCU) won both singles matches against Florida A&M and Jackson State in straight sets.

Liza Gordeeva (NSU) won singles and doubles matches against Longwood.

Yvonne Kamegne (NSU) won a singles match against Longwood, 7-6, 6-1(2).

Andrea Pavlovic (SSU) went 2-0 on the week, earning a win in doubles and singles against Maryland Eastern Shore.
