BOSTON -- James Daniel added yet another prestigious honor to his growing list of accomplishments as he has named a Finalist for the 2014 Kyle Macy Freshman of the Year Award.
The Kyle Macy Award is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball and includes such standout first year players as Jabari Parker (Duke), Joel Embid (Kansas), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Aaron Gordon (Arizona) and Andrew Wiggins (Kansas).
A 5-11, 165-pound freshman guard from Phoebus High School in Hampton, Va., Daniel was named the MEAC Rookie of the Year after leading the conference in scoring with 21.2 points per game. The first player in school history to be so honored, Daniel led all freshmen in Division I in scoring and was in the Top 10 nationally in three pointers made. He was named to the All-MEAC third team.
In yet another development, Daniel was selected to the Boxtorow Division I All America third team. He was the only freshman named to the first, second or third team.
