MEAC Men?s Golf Championship: Day two

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Bethune-Cookman men’s golf team continues to lead after the second round at the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship by 14 strokes on Saturday at the Crosswinds Golf Club.

The Wildcats combined to shoot a 5-under par 571 through 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

Bethune-Cookman brothers Leon and Ryan Fricker fired 3-under par 69s to grab a share of the lead. Leon carded four birdies, three bogeys and one eagle, while Ryan finished with six birdies and three bogeys.

Brandon Neals of Savannah State sits in third after shooting a 2 under 70 and is five shots back of the leaders at 1 under. Neals recorded three birdies and one bogey. Florida A&M’s Kevin Parker and Savannah State’s Travis Roe are even after two rounds. Parker registered two birdies and three bogeys for a 1-over par 73, while Roe carded a 3-under par 69 during the round with three birdies, one eagle and one double bogey.

Justin Stills of Florida A&M recorded the best round with a 6-under par 66 and is tied for sixth. He finished with eight birdies and two bogeys.

The Fricker brothers combined to shoot 6-under 138 to pace the Wildcats. Rafael Abad, who sits in eighth place, shot a 1-over par 73. Matthew McKnight, who is tied for ninth, registered a 2-over 74, while Emanuel Petrich carded a 2-over 74 and is 15th through two rounds.

Savannah State is in second with a 9-over par 585. Florida A&M sits in third place at 12-over par 588. North Carolina Central (607), Hampton (636) and Maryland Eastern Shore (670) round out the field.

The final round begins on Sunday with an 8 a.m. tee time.

The tournament champion and medalist receives an automatic qualification to the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship. The NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Selection Show will air Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
