MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Hampton junior Margaret Wilkins earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Hampton’s Jailynn Jackson was selected Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Kayla DeSchepper earned Rookie of the Week accolades.

Wilkins (SS, Jr., Tustin, Calif.) finished the week batting .467 and helping the Lady Pirates sweep Maryland Eastern Shore. Wilkins registered seven hits, including three extra base hits (two doubles and one home run), seven runs scored, and four RBIs. She belted her first-career grand slam in a win against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jackson (P, Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) guided the Lady Pirates to a pair of MEAC wins against Maryland Eastern Shore. Jackson finished with a 1.67 ERA, while facing 96 batters. She also registered 15 strikeouts in 21 innings.

DeSchepper (OF, Fr., Lakewood,Colo.) batted .538 against George Washington and Maryland Eastern Shore. DeSchepper recorded seven hits and drove in five. She went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in against George Washington.

 

Other Top Performers:

Sabrina Anguiano (BCU) pitched 16.1 innings, fanning nine against Central Florida and North Carolina A&T.

London Booker (BCU) fanned six in a complete-game victory against Florida A&M.

Emerie Germ (NCCU) went 3-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI in a loss to Florida A&M.

Jessica Madrid (DSU) registered five hits, including two doubles in games against Maryland and Norfolk State.

Alina Moriarty (NSU) finished with four hits, including a double, against Delaware State.

Ciara Schnyder (UMES) recorded one double and an RBI against Hampton.

Jamie Schulle (NSU) registered six strikeouts in 13 innings against Delaware State.

Tara Tursellino (DSU) went 1-1 with one save in games against Maryland and Norfolk State.

Danielle Velez (DSU) went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in a win against Norfolk State.
