MEAC Men?s Tennis Championship Finals Matchup Set

CAYCE, S.C. – The South Carolina State Bulldogs and the Norfolk State Spartans will face off in the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Championship final beginning at Noon at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

The top-seeded Bulldogs defeated third-seeded Florida A&M, 4-1, to earn a spot in tomorrow’s finals. South Carolina State captured wins at the number two and three doubles positions to take a 1-0 advantage.

In singles play, the Rattlers got a 7-6, 6-4 win at the number one position by Rodney Carey, but South Carolina State advanced to the championship with victories at the number three, four and six spots.

The Bulldogs will vie for their seventh consecutive and 13th overall MEAC title.

In the second men’s semifinal, the No. 2 Norfolk State Spartans defeated the No. 4 Bethune-Cookman Wildcats, 4-0.

Norfolk State took the lead taking two-of-three doubles matches, winning the number one (8-3) and two (8-3) spots.

In singles action, the Spartans won in straight sets at the number one, three and four spots as Zymitry Zyhmantovich topped Walid Gtari (6-3, 6-2). Robin Riethmueller defeated Gilbert Rotich (6-1, 6-4) and Igor Braga got by Diego Garavito (6-3, 6-4).
