MEAC Women?s Tennis Championship Finals Matchup Set

CAYCE, S.C. – The South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs and the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats will compete in the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Championship Final on Saturday, April 19, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

The reigning MEAC Champion Lady Bulldogs, who entered as the second seed in the south, defeated No. 1 Howard, 4-1, in the semifinals. South Carolina State took an early 1-0 lead going into singles play after winning the doubles at the number two (8-3) and number three (8-2) spots.

In singles action, the Lady Bulldogs won in straight sets at the number two, three and four spots as Klara Dohnalova topped Howard’s Umarah Mughnee (6-3, 6-0). Intissar Rassif defeated Stacey Roheman (6-2, 6-1) and Viktorila Khatcei knocked off Maame Osei (6-1, 6-0). Howard picked up a point at the number five position as Brooke Hawthrone defeated Dakota Brown (6-0, 6-2). The Lady Bulldogs will compete for their 10th straight MEAC women’s title and 11th overall.

Bethune-Cookman, the top seed in the south, defeated Morgan State, 4-0, to advance to the Championship Finals. The Lady Wildcats won the doubles point with the tandems of Mina Matsuba and Maria Sablina and Gaby Chinchilla and Chinatsu Kajiwara.

B-CU won points at the number one, two and six positions to win the match and advance to the finals.
