NORFOLK, Va. - The 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Bowling Championship will air on ESPNU, Monday, March 31 at 10:30 p.m. (EST). The championship finale was originally played on March 23, 2014.
The Maryland Eastern Shore Lady Hawks won their seventh MEAC bowling title and second consecutive tournament title with a victory over the Florida A&M Rattlers at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Virginia.
UMES junior Mariana Alvarado earned Outstanding Tournament Performer honors. Alvarado finished the tournament with a 177 average during team games.
Head Coach Kayla Bandy of Maryland Eastern Shore was named Outstanding Coach.
Joining Alvarado on the All-Tournament Team was teammate Megan Buja, North Carolina A&T’s Emily Strombeck, Katherine Jones of Florida A&M and Norfolk State’s Thea Aspiras.
The Lady Hawks, who are currently ranked third in the National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) Coaches' poll, currently hold a 87-20 mark overall and concluded the season with a 28-2 record in conference play. UMES was one of eight teams selected to compete in the 2014 NCAA Bowling Championship. It is the 11th consecutive trip for the Lady Hawks who won national titles in 2008, 2011 and 2012.
