NORFOLK, Va. – Senior guard Pendarvis Williams of the Norfolk State men’s basketball team was named a finalist for the 2014 Lou Henson Award, as announced on Thursday by CollegeInsider.com.
By virtue of his appearance as one of 30 finalists, Williams also earned a spot on the 2014 Lou Henson All-America Team for mid-major players.
The Lou Henson Award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball. The award is named in honor of Lou Henson, who retired after a spectacular coaching career that lasted 41 years.
Williams earned second-team All-MEAC and first-team NABC All-District 15 honors this season after leading the Spartans to a 19-15 overall record and a CollegeInsider.com Tournament appearance. He averaged a team-leading 15.6 points per game with 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.5 steals this year.
Williams was also named to the 2013 Lou Henson Preseason All-America Team by CollegeInsider.com. He was recently invited to play in this year’s Reese’s College All-Star Game, which consists of 20 of the top senior college basketball players in the country.
NSU’s Kyle O’Quinn won the Lou Henson Award in 2012. This season will mark the fifth year of the award.
This year’s Lou Henson Award winner will be announced at the CollegeInsider.com Award Banquet in Dallas on April 4, the day before the start of the Final Four also being held in Dallas. Williams will also take part in the Reese’s all-star game that same day.
