MEAC Announces Tennis Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. Norfolk State sophomore Dzmitry Zyhmantovich and Howard senior Brooke Hawthorne were chosen as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s and Women’s Tennis Athletes of the Week, the conference announced on Thursday. South Carolina State freshmen Intissar Rassif was named the Women’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.

Zyhmantovich (So., Minsk, Belarus) posted a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (9) victory in the No. 3 singles position and won doubles in a tough match against Richmond. Zyhmantovich has won eight-straight singles match.

Hawthorne (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) went 6-0 during the week in matches against Maryland Eastern Shore, Navy and Wagner.

Rassif (Fr., Casablanca, Morocco.) posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory in against a conference match up against Savannah State.

 

Other Top Performers:

Laguna Foster (Howard) dropped only two games in a 6-0 week against Maryland Eastern Shore and Wagner.

Jessica Josiah (Howard) completed a perfect 6-0 week against Maryland Eastern Shore, Navy and Wagner.

Nile Kendall (Howard) posted a 4-0 record in matches against Maryland Eastern Shore and Wagner.

Mafalda Lhorca (NSU) earned a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (4) victory in singles action against NJIT.

Andrea Pavlovic (SSU) picked up a victory against 7-5, 4-6, 10-5 win against SCSU’s Oleskandra Filippova at No. 1 singles.

Ana Popovic (NSU) won at No. 6 singles against NJIT, 6-4, 6-1.
