Lady Wildcats fall to Stetson

DELAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman dropped its third game of the year to Stetson Wednesday as the Hatters posted a 9-1 victory at Patricia Wilson Field.

The Hatters (22-5) jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead with a two-out rally and expanded their lead to 7-0 after three.

Bailey Conner got the Wildcats (10-22) on the board with a leadoff home run to center in the fourth. She was 2-for-3 on the day.

Calesha Shelley also was 2-for-3, including a fifth-inning double.  Kelsey Rodney had a double, and Melissa Berouty and Shamaria Engram added hits.

B-CU opens its 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule with a Saturday doubleheader against North Carolina Central at Sunnyland Park.

North Carolina Central drops midweek matchup to Appalachian State

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University softball team dropped a 5-1 decision falling to the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Wednesday, March 26 during a Wednesday nightcap in Durham at Parkwood Athletic Field.

A two-RBI homerun over the center field fence for App State from Cara Parker in the top of the first put the Mountaineers on the board 2-0 to start the contest.

The Lady Eagles were unable to answer in the bottom of the inning while App State added to its lead on a Pepper Butler single to left field in the second. 

Trailing 3-0 NCCU seized its first run of the game when senior London Germ’s single to second base turned into an unearned run after Emerie Germ’s hit to second base was mishandled.

Innings four, five and six remained scoreless between both teams before the Mountaineers furthered their lead in the top of the seventh inning, adding two runs off of an Ashley Best single to right field.

NCCU could not convert in the bottom of the seventh as App State earned the 5-1 victory.

The Lady Eagles collected one run on five hits while giving up a pair of errors while the Mountaineers seized five runs on ten hits and gave up two errors.

London Germ led NCCU offensively earning two hits during her four plate appearances and collected the Lady Eagles lone run.

Sophomore London Booker pitched a complete game for NCCU facing 33 batters during her seven innings on the mound. Booker gave up ten hits and four earned runs while she walked one batter and struck out four in the loss.

The Lady Eagles open up conference competition as NCCU travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., March 29-30 for a three-game series with the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.

Florida A&M falls to Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M University Lady Rattler Softball team fell victim to Florida State Lacey Waldrop’s no-hit pitching in suffering an 8-0 loss at JoAnne Graff Field on the FSU campus Wednesday night.

Waldrop (19-2) tossed her third no-hitter of the season, striking out 14 FAMU batters, while allowing two base runners on a walk and a hit by pitch for #11 Florida State, which improved to 31-4 on the season.

The Seminoles scored five runs in the third inning, chasing FAMU starter Kenya Pererira (0-6) after two and one third innings.

Leading 6-0 after five innings, FSU scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

The Lady Rattlers (10-18) now turn their attention to MEAC play, as they open their chase of the 2014 league title on the road this weekend in a three-game series at Savannah State.
