MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior Robyn Mitchell earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday. Hampton’s Jailynn Jackson was selected Pitcher of the Week, while Norfolk State’s Kayla McNair earned Rookie of the Week accolades.  

Mitchell (DP, Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) batted .500 (9-for-18), including four home runs and 16 RBI’s in a perfect 5-0 week against Rider and Coppin State. She went 2-for-4, hitting two home runs and four RBIs in a win against Rider.

Jackson (P, Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) garnered a pair of wins against Morgan State, while accumulating a 0.58 ERA. She faced 48 batters, striking out four, while allowing only seven hits in 12 inning pitched.

McNair (1B, Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.) hit .467 (7-for-15) while driving in nine runs off of four doubles against Rider and Coppin State. She went 4-for-5, including two doubles and a home run, in a win against Coppin State. Defensively, McNair registered 36 putouts with a pair of assists.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Allison Anderson (UMES) batted .455, including a pair of RBIs in games against Savannah State, South Carolina State and Howard.

Sabrina Anguiano (BCU) threw a career-high 11 strikeouts in a win against UC-Riverside.

Danielle Budden (Hampton) went 2-for-4, including a home run and four RBIs in a win against Morgan State.

Vanessa Ciocatto (DSU) struck out eight batters in 17 innings pitched last week.

Morgan King (UMES) went 4-for-4, including an RBI against Howard.

Jessica Madrid (DSU) registered seven hits and scored five times in contests against Central Connecticut State, Mount Saint Mary’s and Cornell.

Jamie Schulle (NSU) combined to strikeout 13 batters against Rider and Coppin State.

De’Onna Smith (NCCU) went 2-for-3, including a home run in a win against Liberty.

Tara Tursellino (DSU) doubled three times and drove in eight against Central Connecticut State, Mount Saint Mary’s and Cornell.

Candice Van Horn (CSU) drove in three runs off of a triple and home run against Norfolk State to extend her hit-streak to 13 games.
