MEAC Announces Softball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Vanessa Gomez earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Thursday. Norfolk State’s Jamie Schulle was selected Pitcher of the Week, while teammate Devon Bitler earned Rookie of the Week accolades.  

 Gomez (OF, So., Belleville, N.J.) led the Lady Hawks last week, batting a .389 (7-for-18) in games against Rhode Island and North Carolina Central. Gomez drove in four and scored a pair of runs. She went 3-for-3 and drew a walk against Rhode Island. Defensively, Gomez recorded 17 putouts.            

Schulle (P, Sr., Maxwell, Texas) pitched in a pair of games against North Carolina A&T and went 1-1 on the mound. She scattered six hits and surrendered a pair of runs in seven innings against the Aggies in a victory. Schulle registered eight strikeouts in the two games.

Bitler (UT, Fr., Bridgeville, Del.) went 3-for-6 in two games against North Carolina A&T. She reached base twice on a pair of base hits in the opening game of a doubleheader with the Aggies.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Alina Moriarty (NSU) went 2-for-3, while smacking a home run, scoring two runs, and driving in two in a win against North Carolina A&T.
