NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State junior Alina Moriarty earned the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week honors, the conference announced on Thursday for games played Feb. 24-March 2. Norfolk State’s Jamie Schulle was selected Pitcher of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman’s Kaitlin Alamprese earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Moriarty (2B, Jr., Chesapeake, Va.) led the Spartans in batting, going 7-for-14 against UMBC, Monmouth and Delaware. Moriarty drove in six runs off of seven hits, including a double and two homers. Defensively, Moriarty had 10 putouts.
Schulle (P, Sr., Maxwell, Texas) pitched in a pair of games against UMBC and Delaware, allowing five runs (two earned). Schulle scattered 10 hits and fanned three in a win against UMBC at the Spartan Clash.
Alamprese (3B, Fr., Chino, Calif.) drove in nine and batted .333 against Mount Saint Mary’s, Eastern Michigan, Long Island, Michigan State and Hofstra. Alamprese belted a game-winning grand slam to lift the Lady Wildcats past Michigan State, 6-3.
Other Top Performers:
Sabriana Anguiano (BCU) picked up a pair of victories and fanned nine at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational.
Trenece Nash (UMES) batted .500 (5-for-10), with two doubles, two RBIs, and a pair of runs scored at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
Calesha Shelley (BCU) went 3-for-3 with a run scored in a win against Eastern Michigan.
