MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State’s Raven Bankston was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Hampton’s Malia Tate-DeFreitas was selected as the Rookie of the Week, while DSU’s Deanna Harmon earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Bankston (G, 5-7, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) totaled 63 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and one block as the Lady Hornets were 2-0 in games last week. Bankston scored a career-high 35 points, on 13-of-23 shooting, with six rebounds and four assists in a 86-66 conference win against Morgan State. Bankston shot 59-percent (26-of-44) from the field and was 9-of-11 from the free-throw line.

Tate-DeFreitas (G, 5-8, Fr., Harrisburg, Pa.) averaged 23.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists in conference games against South Carolina State and Coppin State. Tate-DeFreitas dropped in 27 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 78-47 win against South Carolina State. She also added 19 points and seven boards in a 83-75 win against Coppin State.

Harmon (G/F, 5-7, Sr., Owings Mills, Md.) totaled 23 rebounds in a pair of wins against Wesley and Morgan State. Harmon registered 14 boards, to go along with 19 points and five steals, in a 79-37 non-conference win against Wesley. She had nine rebounds in a 86-66 victory against Morgan State.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Tracey Carrington (MSU) averaged 21.5 points, seven rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals in games against N.C. Central and Delaware State.

Tylinn Carter (DSU) set career-highs in points (13) and rebounds (12) in a 86-66 win against Morgan State.

Shakeyia Colyer (BCU) dropped in 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a loss to Savannah State.

Racquel Davis (NCCU) averaged a double-double of 19.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in games against Morgan State and Howard.

Jasmine Grice (FAMU) poured in 26 points in a 70-64 victory against South Carolina State.

Victoria Gonzalez (Howard) registered 18 points, seven rebounds and a pair of steals in a 47-45 win against Bethune-Cookman.

Rachel Gordon (NSU) recorded six points and grabbed five rebounds in a loss to Savannah State.

Dominique Harper (NSU) finished with 15 points, on 6-of-9 shooting, in a loss to Savannah State.

Kenyata Hendrix (SSU) registered 11 points, including three 3-pointers, in a 79-47 win against Norfolk State.

Jasmine Hill (Howard) poured in 10 points and eight boards in a 47-45 win against Bethune-Cookman.

Ezinne Kalu (SSU) dropped in 30 points, on 12-of-18 shooting, along with four rebounds and four steals in a 71-64 win against Bethune-Cookman.

Tracy King (NCAT) finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds in a 59-50 loss to Coppin State.

Jessica Long (UMES) recorded 22 points, six assists and four rebounds in a 73-63 loss to North Carolina A&T.

Mariah McCoy (UMES) recorded a career-high 27 points and eight rebounds in a 68-61 non-conference win against NJIT.

Tierra Prothro (FAMU) registered a double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds in a 70-64 win against South Carolina State.

Danielle Robinson (MSU) finished with 14 points and four assists in a loss to Delaware State.

Kailyn Williams (BCU) finished with 10 rebounds, nine points and four blocks against Maryland Eastern Shore.
