Eagles capture 6-1 victory over Winston-Salem State
DURHAM, N.C. -The North Carolina Central University men’s tennis team earned its second victory of the season after defeating the Winston-Salem State University Rams in a 6-1 decision during the Eagles home opener on Friday, Feb. 28 on the NCCU Tennis Courts.
NCCU captured the doubles point, sweeping all three matches after Thomas Persico/Fabrice George defeated the WSSU duo of Chris Jeter/Chris Shew at the No. 3 (8-1), at the No. 2 the Eagle’s Tamina Kienka/Jamal Hoyte beat Joshua Aubrey/Corey Bonnett (8-6) and the NCCU twosome of Daniil Gerasimov/Stephan Charles-Donatien took down the Ram’s No. 1 Jonathan Aubrey/Creighton Jones (8-6 (7-2)).
NCCU continued its success during singles play after Gerasimov defeated Joshua Aubrey at the No. 1 (6-3, 6-3), Kienka was successful over WSSU’s No. 3 Jones (6-4, 6-1) and Perisco captured the No. 4 victory over Bonnett (6-2, 6-3) giving the Eagles the 4-1 advantage.
With the victory already clinched, Hoyet defeated Jeter (8-5) at the No. 5 and Kyle Hairston knocked off Shew (8-2) at the No. 6 to give NCCU the 6-1 win.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 8 as NCCU travels to Florence, S.C., to participate in the three-day, 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up.

Bethune-Cookman drops decision to South Alabama
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman dropped a 6-1 decision to #74 South Alabama Friday at City Island.
Elizabeth Nyenwe registed the lone victory at No. 4 singles for the Lady Wildcats (3-7) against the undefeated Jaguars (7-0), who defeated UCF 4-3 the day before.
Nyenwe improved to 5-4 on the season.
