BALTIMORE – The Coppin State men’s tennis team opened its 2014 season by falling to crosstown foe Loyola University, 7-0, Monday afternoon on the road.
The match was much closer than the score indicated. The Eagles (0-1 overall) got strong performances from their entire roster as they started a busy week of four matches in seven days. Highlighting the afternoon for Coppin State was its No. 1 doubles tandem of Oleksiy Krylchuk and Daniel Nino winning, 8-4.
Each athlete also had strong showings in their singles matches. They battled and dropped a second set tiebreaker in each match to fall in straight sets. At No. 2 doubles, the tiebreaker went on for a few points. Patrick Thomas had a nice match as made Loyola’s Jordan Kuchta earn his victory at No. 4 singles.
Coppin State returns to action Friday for its home opener against Bucknell beginning at 1:00 p.m.
