MEAC Announces Women?s Basketball Weekly Honors

NORFOLK, Va. – Delaware State’s Raven Bankston was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Mariah McCoy was selected as the Rookie of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman’s Kailyn Williams earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Bankston (G, 5-7, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) registered back-to-back 30-point games against Florida A&M and Maryland Eastern Shore last week. Bankston notched a career-high 36 points, on 12-of-24 shooting, in a 79-68 win against Maryland Eastern Shore. She began the week with 33 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a loss to Florida A&M.

McCoy (G, 5-8, Fr., Rock Hill, S.C.) totaled 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists in games against Morgan State and Delaware State. McCoy recorded 13 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, including three 3-pointers, and dished out five assists in a 91-46 win against Morgan State.

Williams (C, 6-5, r-Fr., New Orleans, La.) grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked four shots in a 76-62 win against Florida A&M. Offensively, Williams completed the double-double by pouring in 13 points.

 

Other Top Performers: 

Tracey Carrington (MSU) totaled 41 points, 17 boards, four assists and three steals against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.

Jessica Freeman (NCCU) averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals against Savannah State and North Carolina A&T.

Rachel Gordon (NSU) shot 60-percent (6-of-10) to finish with 13 points and seven rebounds in a loss to Coppin State.

Te’Shya Heslip (Howard) dropped in 11 points and grabbed nine boards in a loss to Hampton.

Ivy Harrington (MSU) recorded 11 points and five rebounds in a 66-61 win against Coppin State.

Dinah Jones (MSU) averaged a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in games against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State.

Taryana Kelly (UMES) tied her career-high in points with 10 against Morgan State and Delaware State.

Logan Powell (NSU) registered nine points, seven rebounds and two steals in a loss to Coppin State.

Chastity Rene Taylor (BCU) finished with 20 points, four assists and three rebounds in a 76-62 win against Florida A&M.
