NSU Posts 7-0 Win Over Christopher Newport
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State men’s tennis team posted a 7-0 win over Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon at Centre Court Racquet Club.
NSU improved to 2-3 on the season.
Sophomore Robin Riethmueller and junior Igor Braga defeated Steven Boslet and Sam Thomson, 8-7(6) at the No. 1 doubles spot. At the No. 3 position, sophomore Samuel Lemberger and junior Daniel Grauel claimed an 8-1 victory over Joey Manilla and Michael Dodd.
The Spartans swept the singles competition. Sophomore Dzmitry Zyhmantovich defeated Boslet, 6-0, 6-1. Riethmueller posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Chiraag Shetty in the No. 2 position. Braga picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Thomson. In the No. 3 slot, senior Peter Ramstromer-Pello also posted a 6-4, 6-2 win against Manilla. Lemberger defeated Arttu Fiva, 6-3, 6-3. Grauel competed at spot No. 6 and claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Dodd.
NSU takes on N.C. Central on Sunday in Newport News, Va. Play will begin at 12 p.m. at the Centre Court Racquet Club.

Spartans Take Down Christopher Newport, 7-0
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Norfolk State women’s tennis team posted a 7-0 victory over Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon at the Centre Court Racquet Club.
The Spartans are now 3-2 overall. CNU dropped to 0-3 on the season.
NSU started the match off in doubles play. In the No. 1 spot, freshman Andrea Macchiavello and junior Mafalda Lhorca defeated Katie Carlson and Jodi Noland, 8-0. Junior Yvonne Kamegne and freshman Marie Habiyaremye upended Kelsey Clark and Katlyn Yarborough, 8-2. Freshman Liza Gordeeva and junior Krystal Scott were up 5-4 over Jackie Gaine and Logan Eldridge before the match was abandoned.
Gordeeva started things off for NSU in the singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Noland. Macchiavello competed at the No. 2 slot and posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Gaine. At the No. 3 spot, Lhorca claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Eldridge. Scott competed at the No. 4 position. She defeated Carlson, 6-1, 6-0. Habiyaremye upended Yarborough, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Ana Popovic closed out the singles competition with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jessica Clark.
The Spartans face North Carolina Central on Sunday. Play begins at 12 p.m. at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News, Va.
