MEAC ANNOUNCES WEEKLY BASKETBALL HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Du’Vaughn Maxwell of Hampton University was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  James Daniel of Howard earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Ian Chiles of Morgan State was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Maxwell (F, 6-7, 215, Sr., Manhattan, N.Y.) averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 blocks, and 2.0 steals in a pair of conference games against Morgan State and Howard.  He recorded a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds, along with two assists and seven blocked shots, in a two-point loss to Morgan State.  He also scored 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks against Howard. For the week, he connected on 60-percent (15-of-25) from the field and 100-percent from long range (2-of-2). 

Daniel (G, 5-11, 165, Fr., Hampton, Va.) totaled 44 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal in games against North Carolina A&T and Hampton.  He recorded 23 points, hitting 14-of-16 from the charity stripe, in a 68-60 win over N.C. A&T.  He also poured in 21 points, connecting on 13-of-15 free-throws, against Hampton.

Chiles (C, 7-2, 260, r-Sr., Cliffside Park, N.J.) collected 13 rebounds and 11 blocks in games against Hampton and Norfolk State.  He hauled down 10 rebounds and blocked a game-high nine shots against Norfolk State.  Offensively, he added 20 combined points. 

 

Other Top Performances

Jamie Adams (FAMU) averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two conference games.

Tyshawn Bell (DSU) scored a career-high 19 points, with six rebounds, one assist and three steals in a win over South Carolina State.

Emanuel Chapman (NCCU) posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists with five rebounds, and two steals in a 77-54 win over Bethune-Cookman.

Jamel Fuentes (NSU) fell two assists shy of a double-double with 10 points and eight assists, along with three steals and two rebounds, against Morgan State.

Kendall Gray (DSU) tallied 19 points, 13 rebounds two assists and six blocks against Coppin State and South Carolina State.

Bobby King (FAMU) collected 15 points, 14 rebounds, one assist, four blocks and four steals against Savannah State and North Carolina A&T. 

Lamont Middleton (NCAT) scored 35 points, breaking the school’s single-game shooting record with 18 free-throws, along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals in a win over Florida A&M.

Richaud Pack (NCAT) posted a double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds, along with two assists and four steals against Florida A&M.

Tyler Stone (Howard) registered a combined 15 points, 19 rebounds, one assist, and four blocks to help the Bison finish 1-1 in conference play last week.

Mikel Trapp (BCU) recorded a career-high 33 points with one rebound, one assist, and two steals, in 40 minutes of play against South Carolina State.

Pendarvis Williams (NSU) scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, along with two assists and two steals, against Morgan State.
