Cats Finish Seventh in Third Annual Wildcat Invitational
DeLAND, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman University bowling team went 2-1 during Sunday’s tournament bracket on the final day of the Third Annual Wildcat Invitational. The three-day event was housed at Sunshine Bowling Lanes in DeLand, Fla., and welcomes a total of 12 teams to Volusia County.
Seeded eighth after the first two days of the tournament, Bethune-Cookman bowled strong on Sunday, seeking to move up the final rankings for the event. All matches were Baker with a best-of-seven format.
The Wildcats took down Monmouth by a score of 4-2 in the opening match, before falling to Alabama A&M by a 4-1 decision in the second match.
B-CU quickly regrouped to finish the day on the strength of a 4-0 decision over UAB in its final match. That allowed the Cats to jump a spot in the final standings, finishing in seventh place for the tournament.
Felicia Baker finished as the top individual bowler for the Cats on the weekend, followed closely by Natalee Armstrong.
Central Missouri took home the tournament title with two victories over runner-up Arkansas State on the final day. For the Jennies, it was their first appearance in the Wildcat Invitational, as well as for the Red Wolves. It would be Arkansas State’s Sarah Lokker collecting the individual tournament MVP award, stepping away from the tournament sporting a 217 average.
Also named to the all-tournament team was Ashley Rucker (Arkansas State), Briana Wells (Alabama State), Kara Richard (Central Missouri), Emily Strombeck (North Carolina A&T) and Mary Wells (Central Missouri). Rounding out the top four showing teams in Sunday’s tournament bracket was N.C. A&T (third place) and McKendree (fourth place).
The Wildcats of B-CU get back to the lanes March 1, traveling to Durham, N.C., competing in a MEAC Southern Division event hosted by North Carolina Central.

Host Delaware State impressive in 2014 Capital Classic
DOVER, Del. -- The Delaware State University bowling team was tied for first in regular matches and second in Baker contests in the 2014 Capital Classic at the Mid-County Bowling and Entertainment Center in Middletown, Del., last weekend. The Hornets had an overall record of 10-2 in the tournament.
The Hornets were 5-1 in regular team games, tying Adelphi for the best record in the category, although DSU was tops in total pinfall at 5705.
In addition, Delaware State had the top two traditional games at 1066 and 976.
In the Baker category, the Hornets were second to Fairleigh Dickinson with a 5-1 record. DSU was also second to Fairleigh Dickinson in total Baker pinfall at 4488.
The Hornet had four of the top six individual scores in the tournament.
Delaware State’s Stephanie Sheridan was second among all competitors with a total pinfall of 1188 for a six-game average of 198.0. Sheridan had three 200-plus games, including a high of 239, her second-best score of the season. She also had her third-best game of the season at 234 during the tourney.
DSU’s Brianna Bush was third in the tournament with a six-game total pinfall of 1169 (194.8 avg.). Bush had the top single game in the tournament at 259.
Delaware State’s Crystal Connelly had the tournament’s fifth-best total pinfall of 1165 (194.2 avg.). Her performance was highlighted by season-best scores of 233 and 229.
Hornet junior Courtney Davis was sixth in the Capital Classic with a total pinfall of 1154 for an average of 192.3. Her top tournament score of 229 was her second best of the season.
The Capital Classic also marked the final collegiate appearance in for Hornet seniors Bush and Connelly.
Morgan State Drops Two On Final Day Of Wildcat Invitational
DELAND, Fla. -- The Morgan State women’s bowling team concluded the third annual Wildcat Bowling Invitational, hosted by Bethune-Cookman University at Sunshine Lanes, by dropping both of its Baker best-of-seven matches on Sunday.
With the losses, the Lady Bears ended the three-day competition finishing with a combined 3-9 record and placed 12th out of the 12-team field.
Morgan State (34-33) began the day with a 4-3 loss to Southern, before falling to eventual champion, Central Missouri by a score of 4-2.
The Lady Bears return to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play for the third and final MEAC North Division competition of the season on March 1-2, hosted by Coppin State.
