Lady Hawks Fly Over Monmouth
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – In the fifth episode of the Battle of the Hawks, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball Team flew to victory as they knocked off the Monmouth Hawks, 86-73, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. The win also clinched the Lady Hawks’ first-ever win over Monmouth, dating the series back to 2000.
Maryland Eastern Shore (5-7) scored a season-high 86 points while erasing an 11-point first half deficit. Offensively, the Lady Hawks shot a season-high 47-percent (25-of-53) from the floor and attacked the basket nonstop. The squad went to the charity stripe a season-high 42 times and nailed 32 freebies, another season-high.
On Jan. 17, UMES returns to the hardwood as they resume conference play at the Morgan State Bears. Game-time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Lady Pirates Stifle Auburn, Win FIU Sun & Fun
MIAMI, Fla. – In a defensive effort commonplace over the last five-plus seasons, the Hampton University women’s basketball team defeated Auburn 44-42 on Tuesday to win the FIU Sun & Fun Classic at FIU Arena.
The Lady Pirates improved to 5-8 on the season.
This also marked Hampton’s ninth win over a power-conference school in the tenure of head coach David Six – and the first since a 71-61 win over Virginia Tech last season.
Sophomore guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas, who had a team-high 17 points, was named Tournament MVP. Senior guard Kyani White was also named to the All-Tournament Team after chipping in 10 points.
Senior guard Kenia Cole added 11 points and a team-high five assists. Junior guard Ryan Jordan again grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 32.7 percent (17-for-52) from the floor and hit four of 18 3-pointers (22.2 percent). Despite being out-rebounded 47-36, Hampton turned 18 Auburn turnovers into 15 points and led 26-20 in points in the paint.

Lady Hornets Fall Big to Pitt in Road Trip Finale
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Delaware State women's basketball team (1-10) were no match on the road Tuesday night, as the ACC's Pittsburgh Panthers (10-3) pulled out a 93-58 victory, behind a 50 percent (33-of-66) shooting effort and five players finishing in double figures.
With this loss, the Lady Hornets dropped their seventh in a row, while the Panthers picked up their fifth consecutive win.
For Delaware State, forward Amber Bogard led the way for three players scoring in double figures with 13 points on a tough 5-for-16 (.312) night from the field.
Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will return home for only the second time this season on Jan. 10 to take on Morgan State, in what will be DSU's first MEAC test of the year.

Norman Leads Lady Tigers In Close Loss To Hartford
BRONX, N.Y. – Savannah State led the consolation game of the Eighth Annual Fordham Holiday Classic for 35 minutes, but Hartford found some room to work in the final few minutes, edging out a 59-55 win.
SSU senior Jasmine Norman tied her career-high of 22 points in Tuesday’s loss. Norman has started in nine of the Lady Tigers 11 games this year. However, freshman Jada Young was picked to start in her place on Tuesday.
A minute and a half into the game, redshirt senior Ezinne Kalu suffered an undisclosed injury and Norman checked in for her.
Bria Dorsey joined Norman in double-digits, with 13 points on the night. Norman led the team in rebounds with nine, followed by Tiyonda Davis who corralled eight.
Hartford was led by Cherelle Moore, who put in 17 points, followed by Morgan Lumb with 15 and Amber Bepko with 14. The Hawks improved to 6-8 on the season, while SSU falls to 4-7 and continue a six-game losing streak.
The Lady Tigers return to action on January 4. SSU opens a two-game home stand – also their final nonconference games – against Jacksonville University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
