Lady Hawks Rally Falls Short in loss to UMBC
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – In the Battle of the Bridge Part II, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women’s Basketball Team fell short to Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) as the Retrievers held on to defeat the Lady Hawks, 87-78, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. With the loss, Maryland Eastern Shore dropped to 4-7 overall while UMBC improved to 5-5 on the season.
As a team, the Lady Hawks shot nearly 48-percent (10-of-21) from long range, led by freshman guard Alexus Hicks. The Raleigh-native went 5-of-6 from downtown and finished with a team-high 19 points and four boards. Fellow freshman Moengaroa Subritzky filled the stat sheet as she recorded 10 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, four blocks, and two steals in a losing effort.
Other notable Hawk performances included Burke scoring 14 points off the bench while Shawnee Sweeney and Alexis Udoji combined for 24 points and 12 boards in the loss.
Next Tuesday (12/30), the Lady Hawks wrap up 2014 and their three-game home stand against Monmouth. Tipoff is set for noon.

Lady Pirates Fall to Nationally-Ranked DePaul
CHICAGO, Ill. – The Hampton University women’s basketball team fell on the road to No. 25 DePaul Monday night at the McGrath-Phillips Arena, as the Blue Demons won 86-67.
The Lady Pirates fell to 3-8 on the season.
Sophomore guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas turned in another 20-point effort, pouring in a game-high 22 points to go along with five rebounds and four steals to lead three Hampton players in double figures.
Senior guard Kenia Cole added 12 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while senior guard Kyani White chipped in 11 points.
Junior guard Ryan Jordan added nine points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 36.1 percent (26-for-72) from the floor and hit three of 17 3-pointers (17.6 percent), as well as 12 of their 18 free throws (66.7 percent). Hampton scored 18 points off of 17 DePaul turnovers.
The Lady Pirates will be in Miami, Fla. on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30, for the Florida International Fun & Sun Classic.
