Despite tough defensive performance, B-CU falls to Texas State
DeLAND, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman (3-9) produced a stalwart defensive performance on Friday against Texas State (5-3) in the opening day of competition at the Stetson Hatter Classic. However, offensive struggles allowed the Bobcats to pull out a 51-40 win over the Lady Wildcats at the J. Ollie Edmunds Center.
Defense was the emphasis on Friday, as the Lady Wildcats limited the Bobcats to 27.4 percent shooting, registering nine steals and eight blocks on the day.
Kailyn Williams led eight Lady Wildcat scorers, putting up seven (7) points, while also doing her part in the paint with seven (7) blocks and five (5) rebounds. Her block total was a season high and matched the fifth-best single-game performance in the B-CU record book. Kendra Cooper, Jasmine Knowles and Kayla Crawford each logged six (6) points apiece, while Hollis led on the glass with eight (8) boards.
The Lady Wildcats are back in action at the Stetson Hatter Classic on Saturday at 3 p.m., taking on the Campbell Lady Camels (5-5) at the Edmunds Center. The Lady Camels fell on Friday to host Stetson, 76-63.

Savannah State Falls to Florida State
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Behind a strong second period and some stellar 3-point shooting, Florida State routed the Lady Tigers, 97-51, in Tallahassee on Friday night.
Jasmine Norman ended the night with 13 points and 8 rebounds. It was her second consecutive game in double-digits after putting up 12 on Auburn this past Wednesday.
Morgan Jones went 4-for-5 from beyond the arch and 5-for-7 from the field, ending with 14 points on the night. Florida State hit 7-of-18 3-point offerings on the night.
Redshirt senior Ezinne Kalu led the Lady Tigers for the seventh consecutive game with 19 points. It was also her seventh game in double-digits. SSU shot 81.8 percent from the charity strip on the night, hitting 9 of their 11 free offerings.
Florida State was led by Shakayla Richardson who put in 19 points on the night. Adut Bulgak went 5-for-13 from the field scoring 15 points on the night. Ivey Slaughter and Brittany Brown each added 13 points.
The Lady Tigers fall to 4-5 on the season and conclude the year’s toughest road stretch with the Eighth Annual Fordham Holiday Classic Dec. 29-30 in Bronx, New York. They return home on Jan. 4 to face Jacksonville University.
SSU is 0-8 against ACC teams in their NCAA Division I history. Florida State is the only ACC team they will face this year.
