Marshall edges past Norfolk State
NORFOLK, Va. - Chukwuka Ezeigbo scored the winning field goal on a layup with 1.4 seconds left, spoiling a career night from Norfolk State's Rae Corbo, in Marshall's 73-71 win over the Spartans on Tuesday night at Echols Hall.
Corbo scored an NSU Division I-era record 37 points, easily her career high, to lead a game effort by the Spartans (2-6). Her two free throws with 25 seconds left tied the game for the ninth and final time at 71-71.
Corbo, the MEAC's leading scorer coming in, had her third straight game with at least 20 points and fifth such game of the year. She easily surpassed her career high of 26 points, set during her sophomore year against Texas Southern on Nov. 11, 2011. She also topped the previous NSU single-game Division I record of 36 points by guard Raychele Payne against South Carolina State on Feb. 21, 2009.
Corbo's 37 points are tied for the sixth-most in school history when considering both the Division I and II eras. No Spartan has scored more than that since LaTina Bullock scored 39 against St. Augustine's on Feb. 27, 1996 in NSU's next-to-last season in Division II.
Kayla Roberts posted her second straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Roberts (three) and Corbo (five) combined to hit eight of NSU's season-high nine 3-pointers. Kayla's older sister Nia, playing in her first game as a Spartan following her year on the sidelines as a transfer from Buffalo, had seven points and eight rebounds off the bench.
The Spartans travel to Greenville, N.C., for a 2 p.m. game at East Carolina on Saturday.

Second Half Outburst by CMU Dooms DSU in 91-63 Loss Tuesday Afternoon
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - In what was its first game in 10 days, the Delaware State women's basketball team (1-8) came up short Tuesday afternoon on the road with the Central Michigan Chippewas (4-3) pulling out a 91-63 win, behind CMU outscoring the Lady Hornets 58-27 in the second half.
With this loss, the Lady Hornets dropped their fifth in a row, whereas the Chippewas snapped a two-game skid.
In the first half, DSU led by as many as 10 on two separate occasions in the early going, headlined by two Raine Bankston 3-pointers and forward Tierra Hawkins pouring in six points. However, CMU got back in the game by way of a 13-2 run, capped off by a Amani Corley fast break layup to give her squad a 22-20 lead at the 5:24 mark.
The Lady Hornets, on the other hand, battled back to make it a 62-55 ball game after a Jade Washington deuce with just less than 10 minutes to play. Unfazed, the Chippewas outscored Delaware State 29-8 down the stretch to move a game above .500.
At game's end, CMU's Crystal Bradford (9-of-18) finished with a game-high 22 points (9-of-18) and 10 rebounds, in addition to five assists, whereas Bracey also finished with 22 points (9-of-12).

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will continue their back-to-back road slate in Michigan against Detroit Thursday evening (7 p.m.).
