Maryland’s hot first half lifts Terrapins past Eagles
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – North Carolina Central University senior forward Jordan Parks recorded game-highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double, but the 19th-ranked Maryland Terrapins torched the nets in the first half and held off the Eagles in the second stanza for a 67-56 win on Wednesday night inside XFINITY Center.
The loss by NCCU (6-4) is the first since a nine-point setback at Cincinnati on Nov. 25, ending a five-game winning streak. Maryland improves to 9-1 on the season.
On the night, Maryland attempted 21 more free throws than NCCU, as the Terrapins made 18-of-27 from the charity stripe, while the Eagles converted 5-of-6.
Richaud Pack topped Maryland with 17 points, while Jake Layman contributed 15 points and Melo Trimble added 12 points.
NCCU point guard Nimrod Hilliard tallied 14 points and four assists, including two alley-oop lobs to Parks for emphatic slam dunks, while Anthony McDonald collected nine points on three triples, and Dante Holmes chipped in seven points, five rebounds and four assists.

Two first half runs key Fighting Camels past Hornets
DOVER, Del. --- Campbell had two 12-0 runs in the first half to key a 70-55 men’s basketball win over Delaware State in Memorial Hall Wednesday evening.
The Fighting Camels won their second straight game to improve to 3-5 this season, while the Hornets dropped to 4-5.
Kyre’ Hamer added 12 points for the Camels, while Curtis Phillips chipped in nine. Nine of the 10 players who competed for the visitors scored at least two points.
Campbell outscored Delaware State 34-4 in bench points in the contest.
Amere May scored a game-high 28 points for the Hornets, his second highest point total of the season. He was eight-for-17 from the field and made good on all 10 of his free throws.
Delaware State’s Kendall Gray had seven points and seven rebounds, snapping a string of four straight games with double figures in points and boards.
Gray led all players with five blocks, marking the 20th time in his career with at least five in a contest.
He has at least one block in each game this season, and at least one in 16 straight dating back to the 2013-14 season.
Gray now has 36 blocks in nine games this season (4.0 pg). He was tops in the MEAC and third among all NCAA players in total blocks and fourth in the nation in blocks per game entering the contest.
The Hornets were 18-for-43 from the field (41.9%), but just two-of-18 from three-point territory. Campbell shot 49 percent from the floor (24-for-49), including 52.9% from three-point range (nine-of-17).
Campbell won the rebound battle 30-26.
Delaware State begins a four-game road stretch at Rhode Island on Saturday (Dec. 13). Game time is 2 p.m. The Hornets will also visit St. Francis Brooklyn (Dec. 17), Oregon (Dec. 20) and Temple (Dec. 28) before returning home to face Cheyney on Jan. 5, 2015 (7 p.m.).
