Sluggish Hornets Conclude Lady Rebel Round-Up with a 79-59 Loss to NIU

LAS VEGAS – The Delaware State women’s basketball team (1-6) closed out UNLV’s Lady Rebel Round-Up with a 79-59 defeat suffered at the hands of Northern Illinois (2-4), behind all five Husky starters scoring in double figures.

With this loss, the Lady Hornets dropped their third in a row, whereas NIU picked up its first win since defeating Illinois State in its home opener on Nov. 14.

The Lady Hornets never cut the deficit under double digits, despite shooting 53 percent (17-of-32) in the second half.  Nevertheless, DSU was held to its second lowest scoring output of the season, regardless of three players finishing in double figures, led by guard Raine Bankston’s career-high 19 points (8-of-13).

Coming up, the Columbia Blue & Red will continue their season-long seven-game road trip this Saturday (2 p.m.) against the ACC’s Virginia Cavaliers.
