Wildcats Go 3-1 to Open MEAC Event at N.C. A&T
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Bethune-Cookman bowling team picked up three wins in Traditional matches on Saturday, opening the first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Southern Division event of the year with a 3-1 record. The event is being hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
In the first match of the day, B-CU faced off against Norfolk State. Sophomore Ivory Miles rolled a game-high 220 for the Wildcats, helping them to a 924-873 victory against the Spartans.
B-CU senior Natalee Armstrong rolled a 228 in the following match, as the Cats fell by a tough 921-903 decision to host North Carolina A&T. The Aggies used a 206 from MacKenzie Robinson, as well as a 199 from Kori Smith to come away with the win.
The Maroon and Gold bounced back quickly in its next match, with the Wildcats taking a 916-888 victory from Florida A&M. It was Rebecca Goodwin registering a 243 in the match, while Armstrong rolled a 181 for the Wildcats.
The final match of the day for Bethune-Cookman was a decisive 1,052-750 win over North Carolina Central. In that match, a pair of Wildcats each tallied 200-plus performances (Rebecca Gomez – 288, Armstrong – 200) to help secure the 3-1 afternoon.
Gomez led all B-CU bowlers with a 201.75 average on the day, followed by Armstrong (197.75) and Goodwin (196.25).
Play continues on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Matches will be bowled in Baker format to conclude the two-day event.

Maryland Eastern Shore goes 5-0 to open play
HYATTSVILLE, Md.--The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s (UMES) women’s bowling team opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a perfect 5-0 record on day one of the first MEAC Northern Division meet. UMES bowled five team games on their way to take the division lead and improve to 12-7 overall.
The Hawks finished the day in first place while #19 Delaware State, Howard and Morgan State all had a 3-2 record while Coppin State went 1-4 and Hampton 0-5 on the day.
In the first match of the day the Hawks faced Morgan State. UMES flew past the Bears 938-750, getting a 233 game from Tatiana Munoz. The second match saw the Hawks face the host Bison from Howard. UMES again soared past their opponent with their best score of the day, a 1028 to Howard’s 798. The Hawks got 200 plus games from Justyne Falbo who tossed a 215 while Valerie Riggin added a 210 and Victoria Jones added a 207. Two more Hawks threw 198s to give UMES the 1,000 plus score.
In game number three the Hawks faced Hampton, easily cruising past the Pirates 832-568, a 264 pin difference. While a couple of Hawks struggled in the match, Jones threw her second straight 207 to more than make up the difference. Freshman Melanie Copey bowled her first collegiate game with a 176. Game number four was more UMES, taking an 818-656 win over Coppin State. No one Hawk bowled particularly well, but Munoz added a 181 while the reigning MEAC Bowler of the Week, Thashaina Seraus had a 190.
Game five pitted the only two NTCA ranked teams in the meet against each other. As it was close throughout, UMES pulled off a four-pin win, 942-938, getting a 210 from Jones to make up the difference. Three Hawks were in the 180s to help bolster the score.
UMES tallied 4, 558 pins on the day, the most of any team and 114 pins more than Delaware State.
Munoz was the top Hawk on the day, totaling a 970 over five games to average a 194. That was good enough for second overall as Briana Evans of Morgan State tallied a 997 to average a 199.4. Jones was fourth overall with a 190.4 average while Seraus was fifth with a 197.25 average. On average alone, all seven UMES bowlers in uniform were in the top 14 bowlers.
They resume play on Sunday at 9:00 a.m. with five quad-Baker games, again, once vs. each team.
