MEAC ANNOUNCES MEN?S BASKETBALL WEEKLY HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior Malik Thomas was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. Florida A&M’s Jorge Rosa earned the Rookie of the Week honors, while Delaware State senior Kendall Gray was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Thomas (Sr., 6-7, G/F, Harlem, N.Y.) averaged 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in non-conference games against Boston and Texas Southern. He shot 7-of-12 from the field, including a pair of 3-pointers, to post a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-66 victory over Texas Southern.

Rosa (Fr., 6-4, G., Miami, Fla.) shot 5-of-16 from the field and 7-of-11 from the charity stripe to average 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds against San Diego and Grand Canyon. He registered 10 points, including one 3-pointer, and three boards in a loss to Grand Canyon.

Gray (Sr., 6-10, C, Dover, Del.) totaled 32 rebounds and 11 blocks in three non-conference contests. He grabbed 13 rebounds and four blocks in a loss to North Texas, and added 12 rebounds and two blocks in a win against Baptist Bible. Offensively, he poured in 15 and 12 points, respectively, against Baptist Bible and North Texas.

 

 

Other Top Performers: 

Quentin Brewer (B-CU) posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Central Connecticut State.

James Daniel (HOW) registered 23 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a loss to William & Mary.

Dominique Elliot (UMES) finished with eight points and a season-high four steals in a loss to Saint Francis (PA).

Anthony McDonald (NCCU) poured in 22 points, on 6-of-8 shooting, and three rebounds in a 123-65 win over College of Faith.

Jermaine Ruttley (FAMU) finished with 16 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Grand Canyon.

Mikel Trapp (B-CU) recorded 18 points, including the final seven in the remaining 15 seconds of the game, in a 65-60 win over Central Connecticut State.

Devon Walker (UMES) registered 21 points on seven 3-pointers in a loss to VCU.
