Rmidi Kinini and Blahutova continue to lead way for Hawks

BRONX, N.Y.  — On a chilly and blustery day in the Bronx, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore cross country team finished the season with six runners competing in the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Saturday. Five of the Hawks were male runners who combined to finish 15th at the event. Sophomore Barbora Blahutova was the only female to run as she posted an individual finish of 47th place.

Fellow sophomore Khalil Rmidi Kinini led the way for the men’s team, coming in 24th place with a time of 25:50 flat in the 5 mile run. Although victory eluded him for the second straight race, Rmidi Kinini was always the first Hawk to cross the finish line in every race he participated in this fall.

Junior Mark Tuwei finished just under two minutes after Rmidi Kinnini crossed, earning a time of 27:48.5. Freshman Nelson Kimutai was not too far behind, crossing ten seconds later at 27:57.8. Sophomore Derrick Cheruiyot and Stanley Meli rounded out the Hawks lineup with times of 30:20.0 and 30:37.5, respectively.

Blahutova posted a time of 19:10.4 in the women’s 5k race, placing her in the middle of the field of 98 runners.

The IC4A/ECAC Championships wrapped up the cross country season for the Hawks which will ultimately be remembered for the 2014 MEAC championship won by the men earlier this month. UMES’ track & field program will now focus on the indoor season, which will begin in Annapolis in December.
