FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --- Delaware State trailed by just nine near the midway point of the second half, but wore down in the stretch of a 99-71 loss to Arkansas in a fast paced contest at the Bud Walton Center.
Tyshawn Bell led the Hornets (2-2) with 19 points, highlighted by a career-high five three-point field goals (5-7). Bell is 14-for-23 from three-point range this season (.609). He has hit nine of his last 12 shots from beyond the arc.
Kendall Gray set a new school record for career blocks during the contest. Gray blocked five shots to give him 227 in his career. He entered the game tied with Marques Oliver (2009-13) for the previous record of 222. It was the 18th time that Gray has blocked at least five shots in a game at DSU. He has nine blocks in the last two games, and 17 this season (4.3 pg).
DeAndre Haywood added 15 points for the Hornets.
Michael Qualls led four Arkansas players in double figures with a game-high 20 points.
Arkansas (3-0) pressured the Hornets into a season-high 24 turnovers in the contest.
Delaware State senior guard Amere May made his season debut in the contest. May scored nine points
(three-of-13 FGs) and led the Hornets with five assists. His first field goal of the season, a three-pointer, gave the Hornets a 19-16 lead in the first half.
DSU was 25-for-59 from the field (42.4%), including nine-of-22 from three-point range (40.9%). Arkansas shot 48.6% for the game, connecting on 35-of-72 shots from the floor, including 10-for-19 from beyond the arc (53.6%). The Razorbacks had 26 assists on their 35 baskets.
The Razorbacks won the rebound battle 45-33.
The Hornets continue their string of six straight road games with a visit to Iona next Wednesday (Nov. 26). Game time is 7 p.m. in New Rochelle, N.Y.
