North Carolina A&T drops home contest to William & Mary
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The North Carolina A&T women's basketball team lost at Corbett Sports Center for just the fourth time in 31 games under head coach Tarrell Robinson as William & Mary defeated the Aggies 59-57 Friday night.
Marlena Tremba was 8-for-8 from the floor, 2-for-2 from the line and finished with 20 points to lead The Tribe. Redshirt junior Aprill McRae led the Aggies with 23 points on 10-for-11 shooting. The Aggies committed 24 turnovers, including the last play of the game where Aggies guard Christina Carter dribbled down the floor with time running out and dribbled off her foot as time expired.
McRae gave A&T a 48-47 lead after taking an entry pass into the post from Carter with 5:27 to play. W&M’s Latrice Hunter tied the game with a free throw and Tremba netted a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 4:22 remaining to give The Tribe a 51-48 lead with 4:22 to play. W&M never gave up the lead again.
The Tribe took their biggest lead of the second half, 56-52, on a Tremba layup. A Brown free throw and a Carter jumper in the middle lane put the Aggies to within one, 56-55, with 1:31 to play. The Aggies had a chance to take the lead after an Alexandra Masaquel miss, but a turnover led to another Tremba jumper that gave The Tribe a 58-55 lead with 26 seconds to play.

Lady Bulldogs Move to 2-0 with Win over Columbia College
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women’s basketball team got its second straight win on Friday night after beating Columbia College 97-55 at the Smith-Hamilton-Middleton Memorial Center.
Senior guard Kourtney Williams led SC State (2-0) in scoring for the second time this season with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor and 5-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line.
The Lady Bulldogs led for the entire game. The closest Columbia College (4-4) got was within two (6-4) at the beginning for the first half. SC State took a 25-point lead (53-28) into halftime.
The Koalas could not overcome the large first half deficit and managed just 27 points in the second period.
For the game, Columbia College was 17-of-47 from the floor (36.2 percent) and had 45 turnovers. SC State shot 46.5 percent for the game (33-of-71) and had 23 steals. Both teams grabbed 42 rebounds apiece.
Azia Gibson led Columbia College with 19 points and 11 rebounds. BriAnna Johnson also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Amber Howard, Jazzmine Johnson, Ashleigh Outler, and Jamella Smith all scored 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Jasmine Coleman added eight points and eight boards.
SC State returns to play on Tuesday in a 6 p.m. matchup against USC-Upstate.

Lady Pirates fall on the road to Kansas State
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Hampton University women’s basketball team wrapped up its three-game, season-opening road trip Friday night with a 66-46 loss to Kansas State at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Lady Pirates fell to 0-3 on the season.
Sophomore guard Malia Tate-DeFreitas recorded her third straight 20-point effort to open the season, leading the Lady Pirates with 20 points. Senior guard Jackie Marshall came off the bench to add 11 points behind three 3-pointers.
Tate-DeFreitas and junior guard Areana Davis each grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
The Lady Pirates shot 25.9 percent (15-for-58) from the floor and hit nine of 31 3-pointers (29.0 percent). Hampton also went 7-for-10 (70.0 percent) from the free throw line.
Kansas State (3-0) shot 41.3 percent (26-for-63) from the floor and went 10-for-27 (37.0 percent) from behind the arc. The Wildcats also held a 50-32 edge on the glass.
Breanna Lewis led Kansas State with 13 points, while Haley Texada added 11.
The Lady Pirates will hold their home opener on Tuesday, taking on Washington State at 7 p.m.
