Hornets cruise by Baptist Bible, 104-63

DeAndre Haywood led DSU in scoring for the second straight game, tallying 18 points. Larry Haley came off the bench to score a career-high 17 points. Haley was six-for-10 from the field, including three-of-six from three-point territory; and two-for-two at the free throw line.
Gray had 15 points (6-9 FGs) and 12 rebounds to record the Hornets' first double-double of the season. He also blocked two shots to give him 218 for this career, four shy of the school-record 222 by Marques Oliver (2009-13).
Todd Hughes tallied 15 points on seven-of-nine shooting from the field in his first collegiate game. He was also second on the team with seven rebounds.

Abe Valentine added 17 points and Dan Decker 14 for the Defenders.
Delaware State won the rebound battle 52-33.

Maryland Eastern Shore falls to No. 12 Villanova
PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team lost by a final score of 81-44 against Villanova, one of the top teams in the nation. Visiting the #12 ranked team in the NCAA, the Hawks (0-2) struggled offensively, failing to eclipse 50 points for the second straight road game.
The culprit for the Hawks was the same as Friday night’s loss to Virginia Tech, poor shooting and turnovers. UMES shot 34.2% from the field, an improvement over the season opener but not a strong showing. Villanova used a three-quarter court pressure in the first half, as the Hawks committed 22 turnovers for the night. The press was particularly effective at the end of the first half as the Wildcats went on a 15-0 run over the final 5:07 before halftime.
Devin Martin shined in multiple facets of the game, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. Martin posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. The only other Hawk in double digits in scoring was Mike Myers at 14 points. Myers failed to cash in on opportunities from the free throw line, going 8-for-15. As a team, the Hawks shot poorly from the charity stripe again, posting a 56.0% mark (14-for-25).
Ten Wildcats scored in the game, with four different players tallying at least ten points. Maryland native Kris Jenkins led Villanova with 15 points in the contest. Unlike the opener in Blacksburg, UMES was outworked on the glass as Villanova won the rebounding battle, 31 to 22. The Wildcats did the bulk of their scoring down low with 42 points in the paint.
The Hawks must regroup quickly with another road game on Wednesday night against Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Md. Last season, UMES defeated the Mountaineers, 78-71, in Princess Anne for their second win of the year. Now, the Hawks are in search of their first win under new head coach Bobby Collins. Tip-off at Knott Arena is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
