NORFOLK, Va. – DeAndre Haywood of Delaware State was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. DeBonte Banner of Norfolk State earned Rookie of the Week honors, while DSU’s Kendall Gray was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Haywood (G, 6-2, 200, So., Paterson, N.J.) led the Hornets to a 77-75 overtime non-conference win over the Ivy League’s Pennsylvania. Haywood scored a career-high 23 points with five rebounds, four assists and four steals. He shot 50-percent from the field (8-of-16) in 38 minutes of play.
Banner (G, 6-1, 165, Fr., Mount Vernon, N.Y.) totaled 12 points, three rebounds, six assists and two steals in a pair of non-conference games against Pfeiffer and Virginia. He shot 50-percent from the field (4-of-8) and 50-percent for 3-point range (2-of-4) while aiding the team to a 1-1 finish in the first week of play.
Gray (C, 6-10, 240, Sr., Dover, Del.) hauled down nine boards, blocked six shots and stole two passes as he aided the Hornets to a season-opening victory over Pennsylvania. Offensively he chipped in 17 points.

Ryan Andino (UMES) scored a team-high 11 points with one steal against Virginia Tech.
Quentin Brewer (BCU) collected 12 rebounds along with eight boards, two assists, two blocks and two steals against Trinity.
James Carlton (HOW) averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals against Miami and Goucher.
Rashid Gaston (NSU) finished with 10 points, five rebounds, three blocks, one assist and one steal in a win against Pfeiffer.
Karamo Jawara (NCCU) recorded 11 points, eight rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal against No. 6 UNC-Chapel Hill.
Anthony McDonald (NCCU) scored a game-high 16 points with two steals, one rebound and one assist against No. 6 UNC-Chapel Hill.
Michael Myers (UMES) fell one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, including three assists, against Virginia Tech.
Jeff Short (NSU) averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assist and 1.5 steals as the Spartans finished 1-1 in week one action.
Mikel Tapp (BCU) registered 26 points (9-for-15), three assist and one steal in a 91-69 win over Trinity.
