DANBURY, Conn. – Hampton University senior rightside Vendula Strakova added another award to her proverbial mantle on Wednesday, as she was named Division I Co-Player of the Week by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Arielle Love of Duquesne shared the honor.
It marked the second time this season that Strakova has been honored by the ECAC; she is also a four-time MEAC Player of the Week so far this season, and on Sept. 1, she was named AVCA Div. I National Player of the Week.
Strakova led the Lady Pirates (9-8, 4-0 MEAC) to conference wins over Coppin State and Howard this past weekend, extending Hampton’s winning streak to four matches.
She had 27 kills and 11 digs in Friday’s five-set win over Coppin State, hitting .451, before adding 22 kills and 19 digs in Sunday’s four-set win over Howard. She has 11 double-doubles this season, including five in a row.
Strakova hit .356 over the weekend, averaging 5.44 kills and 3.33 digs per set.
Strakova and the Lady Pirates will be in Princess Anne, Md. on Sunday to take on Maryland Eastern Shore at 3 p.m.
