South Carolina State Falls 3-0 to Charleston Southern
ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The South Carolina State women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-20) to Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at Dukes Gymnasium. With the win, CSU improves to 8-13, while SC State drops to 1-17.
In each of the three sets, the teams traded points and kept it close early on, but CSU was able to pull out three straight wins to take the match.
Kylie Klein hit .467 with nine kills and three total blocks for the Bucs. Amanda Metz and Meredith Parrott each had seven kills. Metz added five digs, while Parrott had four block assists.
Marissa Lawrence led the Lady Bulldogs with nine kills and had five digs, two block assists and one service ace. Erica Pritchett had eight kills and Melanie Williams had 14 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs continue their homestand with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matches against North Carolina A&T at 6 p.m. on Friday and North Carolina Central at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Pierre paces Lady Wildcats in loss to Florida Gulf Coast
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Delicia Pierre had 14 kills and 13 digs, but Bethune-Cookman’s four-match winning streak ended Tuesday night as Florida Gulf Coast downed the Lady Cats 3-1 (25-16,23-25,25-18,25-13) in Moore Gym.
Destiny Hudson added 12 kills, including five in the second set as the Lady Cats (6-14) scored the final three points of the set to even the match. Rakaya Neely put the Lady Cats ahead 24-23, then combined with Hudson for a block on set point.
Bethune-Cookman was two points away from forcing a third consecutive five-set match, leading 23-21 before the Eagles (9-7) reeled off four straight points.
Pierre, who also scored on two service aces and two blocks, double-doubled for the second straight match.
Neely, a freshman, finished with nine kills and seven blocks. Rhea Simon and Lauren Turner each had seven kills, while Hazel Ortiz Rosado posted 45 assists and Normarie Rolon 15 digs.
Olivia Mesner and Eleonora Kazarian each had 18 kills for the Atlantic Sun Conference leading Eagles. Gigi Meyer, daughter of former Florida and current Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer, had 49 assists, seven digs and two blocks.
Bethune-Cookman travels to Florida A&M for a crucial Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference showdown Friday evening.

Savannah State Falls To The Citadel
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Savannah State Lady Tigers dropped a nonconference road match to The Citadel on Tuesday, despite the return of one of their leaders.
It was the second of three matches with the Lady Bulldogs this season. Earlier this season, SSU lost 1-3 to the Lady Bulldogs, but on Tuesday they fell in straight sets, 0-3.
SSU junior Justice Dilworth returned after missing four games due to injury. Dilworth and freshman Zariya Thomas led the Lady Tigers with six kills apiece. Alexis Washington led the Lady Tigers in digs with a season-high 17.
The Citadel jumped out to an early lead in the opening set, going up 12-5 to open. SSU struggled midway through as the Lady Bulldogs pushed out to a 19-8 lead. The Lady Tigers held on with a kill and service ace from Elexius Harris.
A kill from Dilworth and a service ace from Lynae Bryant cut The Citadel’s lead to 20-11. In the final moments, SSU made the Lady Bulldogs earn the win on kills, as they only committed one error in the final 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead behind a 25-16 set victory.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed out to a 10-2 lead in the opening portion of the second set. SSU struggled as The Citadel kept pilling on points.
Trailing 10-18, the Lady Tigers got a spark on a service ace and kill from Olivia Wasdin. Harris added a kill later to cut the home team’s lead to 19-13.
The Citadel responded with two kills, pushing out to a 22-13 lead. SSU fought to the end, but fell 18-25 as the home team went up 2-0 into the third set.
In the final set, SSU managed only 14 points as The Citadel sealed up their sixth win of the season. The Lady Tigers fall to 4-16 overall.
Savannah State returns home this weekend for two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) matches. On Friday, SSU faces North Carolina Central at 6 p.m., and on Sunday they host North Carolina A&T State.
