UMES to host Dig Pink Match on October 10

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has announced that it has partnered with the Side-Out Foundation to present a Dig Pink rally on October 10, 2014 when they host Morgan State University in women’s volleyball action at 6:00 p.m. in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

Admission is free but donations to local breast cancer charities are encouraged.

The match itself will be an important one in conference play for the Hawks, but it will also be highlighted by the team’s efforts to raise funds and awareness for the Side-Out Foundation and their fight against breast cancer.

Fans will be treated to a pink atmosphere with balloons and signage while each attendee will be given a pink band to show their support.  Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the match while the team, cheerleaders and staff will adorn pink shirts.  The team will play with pink volleyballs and Harry The Hawk will be on hand in pink to pose for photos that can be uploaded to social media using special hashtags.

UMES is also teamed up with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in this endeavor to promote awareness of breast cancer and how it affects people.  All attendees are asked to use the hashtags #MEACinPINK and UMES’ own #Soar4aCure.  T-shirts featuring the latter will also be given out to attendees at the event.

In addition, UMES is looking to recognize those survivors that have fought breast cancer successfully and to honor those that have unfortunately succumbed to the disease.  Both survivors and family members of those affected are asked to register before the match or on site and be recognized during the match.  Contact the UMES Athletic Marketing Office at 410-651-6499 or by emailing Associate Athletic Director G. Stan Bradley at gsbradley@umes.edu

The UMES Marketing team will be collecting donations in specially marked pink jugs at all home events in October with all monies being donated to local breast cancer awareness organizations.  In addition fans can donate directly to the Side-Out Foundation by visiting UMES’s site here:
