Volleyball Recap: October 21

Lady Hornets fall to Towson

DOVER, Del. -- Towson posted a .459 hitting percentage in a 3-0 volleyball win over Delaware State in Memorial Hall this evening.  The scores were 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19.

The Tigers won their sixth straight match to improve to 20-3 this season, while the Hornets fell to 1-18.

Towson collected 48 kills and committed just nine errors on 85 attacks. Saitaua Iosia led the Tigers with 15 kills on 19 attempts (.737). Victoria Williams and Haley Pa’akaula added 10 kills each for the visitors.

Jae Jackson was tops on the Hornets with eight kills (.438). Ariana Stevens had seven kills and led DSU with two blocks.  Jasmine Jackson tallied five kills and topped the Hornets with seven digs.

Delaware State had a .190 hitting percentage in the match, posting 28 kills and 13 errors on 79 attempts.

The Hornets return to action this Friday (Oct. 24) at NJIT. The match begins at 7 p.m. in Newark, N.J.

Bethune-Cookman falls to Jacksonville

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Hazel Ortiz-Rosado posted a double-double of 23 assists and 10 digs in Bethune-Cookman’s 3-0 (25-20,25-14,25-15) loss to Jacksonville Tuesday night.

Rhea Simon had nine kills for the Lady Wildcats (6-17). Destiny Hudson added seven kills and Delicia Pierre five.

It was the fifth double-double of the season for Ortiz-Rosado, who also had a service ace.

Normarie Rolon finished with 14 for Bethune-Cookman, which lost its fourth straight.

Sammie Strausbaugh had 12 kills for Jacksonville (12-10) as it won its third straight.

The Lady Cats host Stetson Wednesday night.

Lady Tigers drops 3-0 decision to Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – The Savannah State volleyball squad dropped a nonconference road match to Georgia Southern on Tuesday in straight sets.

The Lady Tigers were led by Justice Dilworth, who recorded four kills in the loss. Elexius Harris and Zariva Thomas each had three kills. Alexis Washington led in digs with seven.

Kym Coley led the Eagles with 15 kills. Cathrine Murray and Stephens Avery led in digs with 10 apiece. Southern improves to 6-15 overall. The Lady Tigers fall to 4-20 on the season.

The Lady Tigers return home for the final home stand. They open the four-game home stretch with a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match against Bethune-Cookman on Friday. First serve is set for 6 p.m. in Willcox-Wiley Gym.
