Wildcats Complete Run at Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational
KENNER, La. – The Bethune-Cookman bowling team went 1-2 in the bracket stage on the third and final day of the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational at the AMF All Star Lanes in Kenner, Louisiana. The second annual event was hosted by Tulane University.
A day after securing a fifth-place seed heading into the bracket stage of the invitational, Bethune-Cookman (6-7) began the day with a matchup against host Tulane in a Best 4-of-7 Baker format. The Wildcats fell to the host Green Wave, 4-2.
In their next match, the Wildcats rolled against Texas Southern, defeating their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opponent, 4-2, in a thrilling match that saw a draw in the sixth game at 173-all.
B-CU later fell to UAB in the fifth/sixth place final match, 4-1, giving the Maroon and Gold a sixth place finish for the tournament.
Bethune-Cookman concludes its season-opening event with a 6-7 overall mark, with sophomore Ivory Miles making her way onto the all-tournament team. She compiled a 208.40 average through five traditional matches on Saturday, including a 257 performance in the B-CU opener against No. 9 Sam Houston State.
Bethune-Cookman gets back to the lanes in two weeks, traveling to the Fairleigh Dickinson New Jersey Jamboree. The three-day event begins October 31, running through November 2 in Elmwood, New Jersey.

Lady Rattlers place 12th at AllState Sugar Bowl Invite
KENNER, La. – The Florida A&M Women’s Bowling team opened their 2014-15 schedule here in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational, hosted by Tulane University.
FAMU finished 12th in the 14-team field with a 164.8 pins per game average.
Sam Houston State (198.2) captured the overall title, while MEAC foe and FAMU archrival Bethune-Cookman finished 6th (186.3).
The Lady Rattlers placed two performers in the Top 50 this weekend: Kalynn Hollis, who rolled a team high 201 in the second traditional match en route to a 178.0 average; and Michele Harper, who rolled a 195 match four on her way to a 173.20 average.
Rounding out the FAMU Top Five were Jenna Naclerio (169.0), Carrie Jerreris (168.0) and Amber Brunson (164.0).
The Lady Rattler bowlers hit the road for Homecoming Weekend, October 31-November 2, to compete in the UAB Storm Bowling Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.

Coppin State opens season at Kutztown Fall Classic
READING, Pa. – The Coppin State bowling team opened the 2014-15 season at the Kutztown Fall Classic on Saturday and Sunday at Berks Lanes.
The Eagles went 1-9 in the first tournament of the season. Coppin State was 1-4 in the Baker games and 0-5 in team matches.
As a team, Coppin State edged out New Jersey City in a Baker match, 643-638, for its lone victory of the weekend.
Individually, junior Kristen Sharpe led the Eagles with 827 pins knocked down and averaged a 165.4 pinfall. She bowled a team-high 188 against Pitt-Bradford.
Junior Kache Woods wasn't far behind, rolling an 806 series and averaging 161.2 pins. She had a 180 pinfall against Mount Aloysius.
In her first career appearance, freshman Jasmine Newman had the third best total for the Eagles with 664 pins knocked down. She averaged 132.8 pins and a 160 pinfall against Mount Aloysius.
Sophomores Maribel Lovos and Brionca Beard bowled 579 and 520, respectively. Lovos averaged 115.8 pins and had a high game of 141 versus Franklin Pierce. Beard had a 104.0 average and had 115 against Franklin Pierce.
As Coppin State prepares for next weekend, the coaches will be focusing on having the team learn from its mistakes.
The Eagles are back in action at the FDU Jamboree on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 in North Brunswick, N.J.
