Four B-CU softball Players Honored By NFCA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Four Bethune-Cookman University softball players were named All-American Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the 2013-14 academic year, it was announced October 2, 2014.

Melissa Berouty, Breanna Chavez, Shamaria Engram and Kelsey Rodney each compiled a 3.5 grade-point average or higher last year. Over 4,660 softball players, including 1,096 in NCAA Division I, across seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2013-14 academic year.

Rodney completed her B-CU career last year.  Berouty is a junior catcher from Redondo Beach, Calif., while Chavez is a senior utility player from Bellflower, Calif. Engram, a senior infielder from Dover, Fla., earned a CoSIDA District Academic All-American award after her sophomore year.

The Wildcats had a team GPA of 3.30.
