Hampton competes in CNU Invitational

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Hampton University men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the Christopher Newport University Invitational Saturday morning at Lee Hall Mansion, with the Pirates finishing third in the Division I team standings.

The Pirates finished with 91 points. VCU won the team title with 38 points.

Freshman Stanley Davis paced the Pirates yet again, turning in a season-best 27:49.20 on the 8K course to finish 13th. Freshman Eric Ellis was 17th with a 28:28.10, while senior Edose Ibadin came in 18th with a 28:29.00.

Junior Quentin Morales-Perryman (Woodbridge, Va.) was 21st with a 29:46.20, and senior Ramon Kelly ran a 30:31.90 to finish 22nd.

VCU’s Mohamed Adam turned in the top time with a 25:35.10.

The Lady Pirates did not record a team score, though sophomore Sharon Kiptoo paced the team with a 24:16.10 over the 6K course to finish 10th. Sophomore Amanda Delacruz was 14th with a 25:03.10.

Junior Kaylor Murray ran a 25:18.80 to come in 17th, and sophomore Caren Bartuin was 21st with a 27:33.20.

Emily Dyke of VCU ran a meet-best 22:29.50.

Three Lady Pirates ran in the 3K open race: senior Malekah Holland ran an 11:27.50, while sophomore Kanitra Hatton ran a 12:38.40 and sophomore Yolanda Springer turned in a 13:18.00.

FAMU edges Univ. of Georgia for team title Saturday

ROME, Ga. – The Florida A&M Women’s Cross Country team continued to ramp up towards the 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships Saturday with a sizzling win at the Berry (Ga.) College Invitational.

Leading the way for the Lady Rattlers was junior Effiey Kosgei, who placed 3rd overall in 22:08.00, followed by Cynthia Chelego in 4th in 22:15.20.

Judith Kibii ran 6th in 22:41.60; QuanDra Shanks placed 14th in 23:48.00 and Phyllis Cheruiyot rounded out the FAMU Five with a 23:48.60 time, good for 18th overall.

Also competing for FAMU were Nicole Kvitkauskas (24:17.80) and April Polite (26:11.60).

The Lady Rattlers will go for a threepeat in their next event, the 2014 MEAC Cross Country Championships at Dover, Delaware, hosted by Delaware State University on Saturday, November 1.

FAMU Men place three in Top 30 at UT-Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Florida A&M Men’s Cross Country team continued gearing up for the upcoming 2014 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championships with a Top Five finish in Saturday’s Frontrunners Invitational, hosted by UT Chattanooga.

The 5000 meter event saw the Rattlers of Coach Marc Small finish in the top five overall with an average time of 18:37.24 Saturday, led by the trio of Dieumy Duclos (17:07.49), Wells Jeudi (17:20.78) and McDaniel Olivier (17:33.10) who placed in the Top 30 overall.

Also competing for FAMU in the event was Jairrin Dickens (19:42.41) and Emmanuel Black (21.27.42).

The two-time defending champion Rattlers will seek to defend their crowns in the 2014 MEAC Cross Country Championships, on Saturday, November 1 at Dover, Delaware, hosted by Delaware State.
