B-CU Moves to Fifth at Allstate Sugar Bowl Invite

KENNER, La. – Bethune-Cookman posted a 3-2 record in traditional play on Saturday, helping the Wildcats move up a spot to fifth place on the second day of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational at the AMF All Star Lanes. The second-year event is being hosted by Tulane University in Kenner, Louisiana.

Sophomore Ivory Miles (Bolingbrook, Ill.) helped Bethune-Cookman with a pair of 200-plus games, including a game-high 257 in the Wildcats’ opener against No. 9 Stephen F. Austin. The Wildcats dropped a tough 1,074-998 decision to the Lumberjacks to begin traditional match play.

B-CU bounced back to take down host Tulane by a count of 1,133-879 in its second match. Rebecca Goodwin (Port Orange, Fla.), a junior transfer from Alabama A&M, helped the Wildcats in the win with a game-high 274 score.

Goodwin and Miles finished amongst the top 15 bowlers for individual scores, with Miles leading the charge on the strength of a 208 average on the day. That allowed her to finish sixth overall in the tournament field, as Goodwin ended with a 203 average, placing her 13th overall.

The Wildcats defeated Alabama A&M in their second match of the day, using an 892-876 margin against the Bulldogs. B-CU posted its third win of the day courtesy a hard-fought 938-935 defeat of UAB.

The final match of the day was a 923-865 setback to Texas Southern.

Preseason All-MEAC selection Felicia Baker (Marietta, Ga.) rolled well for the Cats, turning in games of 196, 195 and 194, respectively. Senior Rachel Moore (Holly Hill, Fla.) registered a pair of 200-plus performances, including a 209 game in the win over Tulane.

Meanwhile, sophomore Krysta Coleman (Trotwood, Ohio) tallied a 226 game against the Green Wave, capping three B-CU players with a plus-200 score in the game.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Invitational concludes Sunday with a tournament at 9 a.m. CT. The tournament, consisting of Best 4-of-7 Baker matches, will determine the champion.

With B-CU taking a fifth place seeding, they will take on sixth place seed Tulane for its opening match on Sunday.

The 13 teams are seeded based on the performance from Friday and Saturday. The Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin, defending Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational champions from a season ago, sit in first place for the tournament after posting an 8-1 record through the first two days of the event.
