Pierre’s double-double not enough to lift Bethune-Cookman past North Florida
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Delicia Pierre had a double-double of 15 kills and 12 digs, but Bethune-Cookman dropped a 3-1 (25-21,18-25,25-20,25-21) non-conference match to North Florida Tuesday night inside Moore Gymnasium.
Rhea Simon added 12 kills for the Lady Cats, who jumped out to a 14-9 lead in the second set and pulled away to even the match at one set apiece.
Bethune-Cookman (6-16) led 17-15 in the third set, but the Ospreys (6-14) scored four unanswered points to take a 19-17 lead and held on to regain the lead in the match.
Simon had a late three-kill outburst in the fourth set that helped Bethune-Cookman close to 23-21 before the Ospreys scored the final two points.
Destiny Hudson posted nine kills for the Lady Cats, while Rakaya Neely finished with six kills and five blocks.
Setter Hazel Ortiz-Rosado had 34 assists and three service aces. Normarie Rolon led the Lady Cats with 17 digs, while Rechez Lindsay added 10.
Bethune-Cookman returns to action next Tuesday against Jacksonville.

Lady Pirates fall in five-set thriller to VCU
HAMPTON, Va. – The Hampton University volleyball team’s match against VCU in Holland Hall on Tuesday night didn’t just go five sets; it showcased heart, resilience, and grit, as VCU withstood countless runs and comebacks before winning 3-2 (25-19, 15-25, 22-25, 25-23, 21-19).
Senior rightside Vendula Strakova led three Lady Pirates with double-digit kills, tallying 24 to go along with 12 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. Senior outside hitter Krista Kraskura added 16 kills, while senior outside hitter Sonja Maksimovic tallied 11 kills.
Strakova is now 18 kills shy of tying the program’s all-time career kills record of 1,472, set by Chavanca Hoskins from 2003-06.
Senior setter Kitija Megne had 44 assists, and junior libero Allysa Medina had 10 digs on defense.
The Lady Pirates (10-9) hit .247 for the match.
VCU held a 13.5-7.0 edge in blocks, and both teams had nine aces.
MEAC play resumes on Sunday, when the Lady Pirates head to Norfolk, Va. to take on rival Norfolk State at 3 p.m.
