NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina A&T State sophomore Liz Martino was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week. North Carolina Central’s Paige Phillips earned Rookie of the Week honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Martino (S, 5-7, So., Elmhurst, Ill.) led the Lady Aggies to a 2-0 record last week by recording a double-double of 20 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 victory over Savannah State. She also added 31 assists and nine digs in a 3-0 win against South Carolina State.
Phillips (S, 5-7, Fr., Birmingham, Ala.) totaled 31 assists and eight digs as the Lady Eagles finished the week 1-1. She registered 20 assists in a four-set loss to South Carolina State.
Other Top Performers:
Samara Brown (NCAT) registered 17 kills, eight assists, five digs and four service aces against South Carolina State and Savannah State.
Angie Darcus (NSU) recorded 13 kills and three blocks against Howard.
Khaila Donaldson (HOW) finished with 15 kills and seven digs in a 3-1 win over Coppin State.
Kirstin Fink (UMES) finished with 17 assists and nine kills in a four-set loss to Morgan State.
Denni Johnson (NCCU) notched 14 kills and five service aces in a four-set loss to South Carolina State.
Gabrielle Otero (CSU) registered 21 digs in a four-set loss to Howard.
Samantha Prescott (MSU) tallied 11 kills and eight digs in a 3-1 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Stephanie Shultis (HOW) registered 79 assists, 12 digs and nine blocks against Norfolk State and Coppin State.
Vendula Strakova (HAM) recorded 17 kills and nine digs in a 3-0 win against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Clarke Tyler (NSU) totaled 11 kills, five digs and four blocks in matches against Howard and Delaware State.
